Prayer and worship are central to our daily lives here at St Oswald’s CE Primary School. The foundation of our school is Church of England and so all our acts or worship are based on this Christian tradition. All children in school participate in our daily act of collective worship and there are opportunities for children to lead and plan their own worship. We believe that we are all joined together as a worshipping community and parents and friends of the school visit our worship weekly.

We have excellent links between church and school. The school takes part in a number of church events each year including the Harvest Festival and the Christmas Carol Concert, Easter service and leavers' service. Vicar Michelle is a governor and she leads children through worship on a Tuesday.

We sing songs from Out of the Ark, these reflect the time of the year and upcoming celebrations. During worship, we listen to a variety of music and celebrate it on the music display.

We are very fortunate to have a number of people in school who lead worship, and we work together as a team to ensure that worship is a strong part of our school.

Our Christian Values

Our collective worship is carefully planned around a different Christian value each half term. These values help us to explore what it means to live as a Christian community and provide opportunities for children to reflect on their own choices, relationships and responsibilities.

The values are rooted in our Christian faith and school vision, while also supporting the personal qualities and behaviours we want to develop in our children. Each value gives us a focus for prayer, reflection, Bible stories, discussion, music and worship, allowing children to explore how our Christian faith can influence the way we live our lives.

Our Christian values are also linked to our wider school values and vision, helping children to understand that these are not simply words on a page, but qualities that we seek to demonstrate in our everyday lives.

Through these values, we encourage children to look beyond themselves, consider the needs of others and develop a deeper understanding of their place within God's world. Worship provides regular opportunities to pause, reflect and consider how our faith can shape the way we treat one another and the choices we make.

Each half-term, the chosen value becomes part of the language and culture of school. Children are encouraged to recognise the value in themselves and others, celebrate examples of it and think about how they can put it into practice in their own lives. In this way, collective worship contributes not only to our spiritual development but also to our sense of community, character and Christian discipleship.
